As Managing Director, Sam is actively involved in all aspects of the firm's investment portfolios. Prior to Threadridge, Sam was a Managing Partner at Minturn Partners, a private equity fund-less sponsor targeting the lower-middle market. Previously, Sam spent ten years at Carousel Capital, a Charlotte, NC based private equity firm. His prior work experience also includes time in the M&A Department at Morgan Stanley, as an Associate at Castle Harlan, and an Associate at Vestar Capital Partners.
Sam holds a B.S degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School.
Sam also serves on several non-profit boards, including the UNC Healthcare System, The Kenan Flagler Business School, Mint Museum Board of Trustees, Heart Math Tutoring, and the JDF International Investment Committee.
Michael Phipps Managing Director
As Managing Director, Michael is actively involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment portfolios, including asset allocation, portfolio construction, and investment diligence. Previously, Michael was the Investment Director at Davidson College, where he led the research and investment processes for the endowment alongside the school’s CIO. Prior to joining Davidson, Michael was a Vice President at Morgan Creek Capital Management, where he served on the investment team which managed $7.5B in institutional and high net worth assets. He began his career as an Investment Analyst at UNC Management Company.
Michael received his B.S. with honors in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead-Cain Scholar, and his M.B.A. with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a CAIA charterholder.
